Although he was framed, Hagrid's wand was broken and he was expelled, but fortunately he was trained to be the gamekeeper at Hogwarts and earned the right to live on the school grounds at the request of Albus Dumbledore. Hagrid was later tasked with re-introducing Harry Potter to the wizarding world, a role that would see him becoming a friend and protector of the young wizard.
