ABEC is a set of tolerance standards for the production of ball bearings. They were developed by the American Bearing Manufacturers Association (ABMA). Five tolerance classes have been distinguished: 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 (from the largest to the smallest tolerance). This means that the higher the number, the more precisely the bearing is made. Individual bearing parameters are achieved first by segregating the balls, inner and outer rings, and finally by using a lubricant. In fact, it is hard to say that the ABEC 9 bearing is generally better than the one with the number 5. The ABEC5 bearing was created with a specific application in mind in a given model of roller skates (usually recreational skating), and for example type 3 bearings are offered mainly in children's roller skates, then ABEC5 is a proposal for beginner skaters who value durability much more than speed. ABEC7 is the perfect optimum between durability and relatively high speed.
