VL53L0X Time-of-Flight Distance Sensor Breakout - VL53L0X V2 Module; The VL53L0X is a time-of-flight ranging system integrated into a compact module. This board is a carrier for the VL53L0X, so it is recommended to carefully read the VL53L0X datasheet before using this product. The VL53L0X uses technology to precisely measure how long it takes for emitted pulses of infrared laser light to reach the nearest object and be reflected back to a detector, making it a small, self-contained lidar system. This time-of-flight (TOF) measurement allows it to accurately determine the absolute distance to a target without significant influence from the object's reflectance. The sensor can report distances up to 2 m (6.6 ft) with 1 mm resolution. However, effective range and accuracy depend on ambient conditions and target characteristics such as reflectance and size, as well as sensor configuration. Sensor accuracy ranges from +/-3% under optimal conditions to over +/-10% in less ideal situations. Ranging measurements are available through the sensor's IC (TWI) interface, which is also used to configure sensor settings. The sensor includes two additional pins: a shutdown input and an interrupt output. The VL53L0X is a capable IC, but its small, leadless LGA package can be difficult for typical students or hobbyists to use. It operates at a recommended voltage of 2.8 V, which may complicate interfacing with microcontrollers running at 3.3 V or 5 V. This breakout board addresses these issues, simplifying sensor integration while maintaining a minimal footprint. Pin Description: - Regulated 2.8 V output: Up to nearly 150 mA available to power external components. This pin can also serve as a 2.8 V input if the internal regulator is bypassed (with VIN disconnected). - VIN: Main power supply connection from 2.6 V to 5.5 V. The SCL and SDA level shifters pull the IC lines high to this level. - GND: Ground (0 V) connection. Your control source must share a common ground with this board. - SDA: Level-shifted IC data line; HIGH level is VIN, LOW is 0 V. - SCL: Level-shifted IC clock line; HIGH level is VIN, LOW is 0 V. - XSHUT: Active-low shutdown input. The board pulls this pin high by default to enable the sensor. Driving it low places the sensor in hardware standby. This input is not level-shifted.
