Solid carbide tools provide long tool life and faster cutting speeds than other substrates. They are more brittle and must be used with rigid toolholding systems. Compatible materials include carbon steel, chilled cast iron, ductile iron, gray cast iron, die steel, heat resistant alloy steel, and tool steel. Uncoated tools feature only the base substrate with no coatings or surface treatments and are suitable for a wide range of applications. For righthand cuts (counterclockwise direction), spiral fluted tools evacuate chips up and out of the cut to reduce clogging.
