3-Stage Audio Power Filter

This Level 3 audio amplifier power filter accepts single-phase AC input (110–250 V) and delivers clean, filtered AC output at the same voltage range, supporting up to 10 A load current. It features a compact PCB-based construction with high-reliability components, housed in a black enclosure. The unit uses a 3-wire 7.62 mm pitch socket for input (including live, neutral, and earth) and a 2-wire 7.62 mm pitch socket for output. Grounding is flexible: input GND may be connected either to the mains earth wire or to the equipment chassis, depending on system configuration. The filtering architecture comprises one stage of differential-mode filtering using two differential inductors — targeting mid-to-high-frequency interference on the AC line — plus two stages of common-mode filtering built with X2 safety capacitors and common-mode inductors. This three-level composite design (1 DM + 2 CM) significantly improves suppression of rapid transient group pulse noise, especially repetitive disturbances in the several-kilohertz range commonly observed in real-world audio installations. When integrated upstream of audio power amplifiers or decoders, this filter reduces DC offset on the supply rail, suppresses transformer-induced mechanical buzzing, attenuates high-frequency switching noise from upstream SMPS or dimmers, and delivers cleaner AC power — resulting in measurably quieter backgrounds, improved signal resolution, and enhanced overall sound clarity.
