The resistance strain gauge operates based on the piezoresistive effect: when a conductor or semiconductor material undergoes mechanical deformation due to external force, its electrical resistance changes proportionally. The strain gauge is bonded to the surface of the object under test; as the object bends or deforms, the metallic foil element within the gauge experiences strain, resulting in a measurable resistance change.
