Digital Light Sensor Module with High Dynamic Range and Infrared Full Spectrum Diodes

The TSL2591 light sensor is an advanced digital light sensor, suitable for use in various lighting conditions. Compared to low-cost cadmium sulfide cells, this sensor offers higher accuracy, enabling precise lux calculations. It supports configurable gain and integration time settings, with a detection range from 0.000188 lux up to 88,000 lux. It features both infrared and full-spectrum photodiodes, allowing separate measurement of infrared, full-spectrum, and visible light. The TSL2591 provides an extremely high dynamic range of 600,000,000:1. Note that the I2C address is fixed at 0x29 and cannot be changed. The module includes an onboard voltage regulator and operates within a supply voltage range of 3.3V to 5.0V. It integrates a 16-bit ADC, enabling direct digital interface with microcontrollers—even those without analog inputs. Operating current is approximately 0.4 mA; power-down current is less than 5 µA, making it ideal for low-power applications.
