Hands-On Phonics Learning Toolkit

A research-informed phonics toolkit containing 142 tactile tiles (2.5 cm square, 350 gsm laminated card), an A4 wipe-clean tri-fold folder with dedicated sections for onset/rime sorting and sentence-building practice, and a refillable dry-wipe pen. Folder includes a laminated quick-reference phoneme chart and space for session notes. Materials comply with BS EN71-1 (mechanical/physical properties) and are free from phthalates and formaldehyde. Tiles are grouped by phonics category: 26 single consonants, 12 short vowels, 32 consonant blends/digraphs, 24 long vowel patterns, and 48 high-frequency word parts (e.g., ‘-ing’, ‘un-’, ‘-ed’). Designed for repetition-based mastery: each tile is sized and weighted to support pincer grip development and sustained manipulation during extended practice sessions. Validated for use in EEF-funded literacy trials across 27 primary schools in England. Recommended by the National Association for Special Educational Needs (NASEN) for multi-sensory phonics delivery in Key Stage 1, particularly where tactile input improves retention for learners with memory or processing differences.
