The product features a 14-bit rotary position sensor with digital angle output and pulse width modulation (PWM). The AS5048A is a 14-bit rotary position sensor for absolute angle measurement over 360 degrees, based on non-contact magnetic sensor technology. It is suitable for shaft applications where a two-pole magnet rotates above or below the sensor IC. The zero position can be programmed using standard SPI commands. Absolute magnetic angular position resolution is 14 bits (16,384 steps per revolution), with output via SPI or I²C interface. PWM output is also provided. No precise mechanical alignment is required between the sensor and magnet for zero-position setup—zero can be programmed in-system via SPI or I²C. The device offers high mechanical tolerance, including misalignment between sensor and magnet, air gap variation, and operation across temperatures from –40 °C to +150 °C. The AS5048 provides improved measurement accuracy compared to earlier magnetic rotary encoders. Its 14-bit analog front end enables angular resolution down to 0.0219°. With microcontroller-based linearization and averaging, typical angle accuracy reaches 0.05°.
