Water turbidity refers to the cloudiness caused by suspended particles such as silt, clay, organic matter, plankton, and microorganisms in water. Industrial-grade turbidity sensors or meters are typically expensive, making them less suitable for cost-sensitive electronic designs. This sensor is widely used in household appliances like washing machines and dishwashers. It operates on optical principles, assessing turbidity by measuring light transmittance and scattering in the liquid. The sensor contains an infrared emitter-receiver pair. As light passes through water, the amount of transmitted light decreases with higher pollution levels. The receiver converts the received light intensity into a corresponding electrical current—higher light transmission results in higher current, and lower transmission yields lower current.

Note:
1. The top of the turbidity sensor is not waterproof. Do not fully submerge the sensor in water. The water level must not exceed the seal between the top cover and the housing. Water ingress may cause permanent damage.
2. The photodiode wavelength range is 500–1050nm. Sunlight or fluorescent lighting may interfere with the sensor’s readings and increase measurement error. Avoid direct exposure to sunlight or strong ambient light during use.
3. Keep the sensor head clean. Contamination on the housing may lead to inaccurate measurements.
