Triple-Stage EMI Filter

A dedicated Level 3 electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter for audio power supplies, designed to operate across 110–250 V AC input and deliver clean, stable AC output at identical voltage levels. Rated for 10 A continuous load, it uses a PCB-based platform with high-stability passive components and a black finish. Input interface is a 3-wire 7.62 mm pitch socket (live, neutral, earth), while output is a 2-wire 7.62 mm socket (live, neutral). The input ground terminal supports dual grounding options: connection to mains earth or to the equipment chassis — facilitating noise-aware system integration. Its filtering topology integrates three distinct stages: Stage 1 applies differential-mode filtering using two discrete differential inductors to attenuate asymmetrical noise; Stages 2 and 3 implement independent common-mode filtering circuits, each comprising X2 safety-rated capacitors and custom-wound common-mode chokes. This layered structure achieves deeper insertion loss across a broader frequency spectrum — especially effective against fast, repetitive electrical disturbances (e.g., kilohertz-range bursts from nearby electronics) that degrade audio fidelity. When placed between wall outlet and audio power amplifier or decoder, it removes DC bias from the AC supply, suppresses magnetostrictive transformer buzz, and eliminates high-frequency switching noise — resulting in lower noise floor, greater micro-detail, and improved tonal neutrality — benefits consistently reported by users integrating similar filters into UK-based hi-fi systems.
